Warner Bros. officially confirms Hogwarts Legacy 2 in shareholder letter

Warner Bros. has officially acknowledged the existence of a Hogwarts Legacy sequel for the first time. In a letter to shareholders, the company mentioned the second installment among projects expected to strengthen its gaming division's financial performance.

Until now, the continuation of the wizarding saga could only be inferred from rumors and job postings at Avalanche, the studio behind the original for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. The publisher has now confirmed that the sequel is in development.

The document states that games remain a key growth driver for Warner Bros. In the second quarter, the company released LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, described as the highest-rated LEGO game ever, along with the mobile title Game of Thrones: Dragonfire. These launches marked the first releases under a new strategy focused on four key franchises with potential revenue exceeding one billion dollars each.

According to the letter, the gaming unit expects to contribute more meaningfully to segment profitability as its pipeline expands, including "the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy." No further details about the sequel were provided—neither release timing nor plans for gameplay improvements.

The original Hogwarts Legacy was a commercial success but largely followed a standard open-world formula reminiscent of Ubisoft titles. Many in the community have expressed hopes that the sequel will be bolder and leverage its rich setting to deliver a more distinctive experience. Some players also noted the oddity that the first game allowed unrestricted use of Unforgivable Curses, including Avada Kedavra, with no reaction from NPCs.
