Minecraft for Nintendo Switch 2 launches October 27 with new lighting and shadows

Mojang Studios has confirmed the release date for the native version of Minecraft on Nintendo Switch 2 — the game will arrive on the console on October 27. The title is already playable on the device through backward compatibility, but a full "next-gen" version has yet to appear, and that will change within two months.

The announcement came via the official Minecraft account on X on August 5. The key addition is the Vibrant Visuals graphics mode, which will be enabled by default. It introduces improved lighting effects, shadows, and other visual details. The developers clarify that Vibrant Visuals will not be available in split-screen mode or in some Marketplace Worlds.

Alongside the base game, the Super Mario Mash-Up pack will also receive the upgrade, letting players explore Peach's castle and Delfino Plaza with enhanced visual fidelity.

It remains unclear whether owners of the Nintendo Switch version will need to repurchase the game for the Switch 2 or receive a free upgrade. Mojang Studios promises to share more details in the coming weeks.
