ThinkPad P1 Gen 9 hits US with 1,500-nit Tandem OLED and 8,533 MT/s RAM

Lenovo has started selling its flagship ThinkPad P1 Gen 9 workstation in North America. The model already replaced the Gen 8 predecessor in Australia, East Asia, Europe, and Southeast Asia, and now it has reached the US and Canada.

The key change is a shift from Arrow Lake-H processors to the newer Panther Lake chips. In North America, buyers can choose between the Core Ultra 7 356H, Core Ultra 7 366H vPro, Core Ultra 9 386H vPro, and the Core Ultra X7 368H vPro, with the latter being the most powerful option thanks to its 16 CPU cores and the Arc B390 integrated GPU. Other regions also get the Core Ultra X9 388H. The NVIDIA RTX Pro 2000 Blackwell GPU with 8 GB of VRAM remains unchanged.

The new platform also enables faster memory: instead of 7,467 MT/s on the Gen 8, the laptop now runs LPCAMM2 at 8,533 MT/s through a single dual-channel slot. Some markets allow configurations with up to 96 GB, but North America is currently limited to 64 GB.

The display is another major highlight. The Tandem OLED panel with a 3,200×2,000 resolution features a 40–120 Hz variable refresh rate, an anti-glare coating, and 600 nits of SDR brightness that jumps to 1,500 nits in HDR mode. For those who prefer IPS, there is a 3,840×2,400 panel with 800 nits of brightness.

Removing the bottom cover reveals two M.2 2280 slots, a 90 Wh battery supporting up to 140 W charging, quad speakers, and a WWAN module for optional 5G connectivity. Pricing starts at CAD 5,114 and $3,678 for a configuration with the Core Ultra X7 368H vPro, 32 GB of RAM, and an 800-nit display without discrete graphics. The top-end model with the Core Ultra 9 386H vPro, 64 GB of memory, Tandem OLED, and the RTX Pro 2000 costs up to CAD 8,634 and $6,215.
