S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2's biggest update yet: new engine, binoculars, and a living Zone

GSC Game World has shared a detailed look at "Return to the Zone," the major update for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl. The patch arrives on August 20 alongside the paid Cost of Hope expansion, but the update itself is free for everyone who owns the game.
The studio calls this the most technically significant update in the project's history. The team has substantially upgraded the game engine, introduced mechanics that stalkers have been requesting for a long time, and prepared several surprises they were eager to show players. The changes touch lighting, vegetation, open-world areas, and the A-Life simulation system.
Sunlight on open terrain will now fall on the environment in a completely different way, with reworked reflections and shadows. Indoor lighting becomes much more realistic. Landscapes and plant life get a more natural look, and hundreds of errors across the map have been fixed, including objects floating in the air and incorrectly placed anomalies.
The A-Life behavioral system has been overhauled once again and is now "significantly more believable." According to the developers, the Zone no longer feels like a constant battlefield with endless gunfire. It is a harsh frontier where life follows its own rules, with stalkers and mutants going about their daily routines, occasionally crossing paths and clashing with each other.
The update adds binoculars and new scopes, along with a selection of new weapons. The team has also implemented several popular community requests and fixed numerous bugs. A full changelog is expected closer to the release date.
