GTA 6 Ultimate Edition grabs record 89% of preorders — even at $100

The hype around Grand Theft Auto VI shows no signs of cooling, and apparently the higher price tag is not scaring buyers off either. According to digital intelligence firm Sensor Tower, nine out of ten preorders for the game are for the most expensive $100 Ultimate Edition. That ratio is unprecedented for the gaming industry.

To put the figure in perspective, premium editions of games typically account for just 10–20% of preorders. A 50% share is considered a great result. GTA 6 has blown past those benchmarks, with the premium tier capturing 89% of all preorders placed so far. Analysts say they have never seen anything like it.

Karl Kontus, SVP and GM of Video Game Insights at Sensor Tower, told GamesIndustry.biz that he has never witnessed a 90% premium share before. He noted that a 50% premium share during preorders would already be an excellent number, while typical shares hover around 10–20%. In other words, GTA 6's premium uptake is up to nine times higher than the industry standard.

The data backs up recent comments from Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick, who said on CNBC that early preorders were skewing heavily toward premium editions. The numbers suggest that the massive anticipation built by the game's trailers is translating directly into record-breaking purchasing behavior. Even with a higher price compared to past releases, fans are overwhelmingly choosing the most expensive version, signaling extraordinary confidence in the title. The 89% figure far exceeds any previous special edition launch and underscores just how much demand exists for the next entry in the franchise.
