Maker merges Joy-Con into WiiMote to create hybrid Wii-Cons for Switch 2

A modder known as has completed an unusual project: merging Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers with Wii remotes (WiiMotes) to create hybrid controllers he calls Wii-Cons, or JoyMotes.
The modification was far from clean or easy. Rather than designing a custom PCB and 3D-printed shell — which the maker admits would have been much simpler — he chose to fit the Joy-Con's side rail, thumb stick, and circuit board inside the WiiMote's original casing while keeping the WiiMote's own PCB intact. As a result, both WiiMotes used in the project can no longer connect to an original Wii console.
After the physical assembly was complete, the biggest headache was remapping Joy-Con buttons that have no direct counterpart on the WiiMote. The maker notes that a custom PCB with full control over the button layout would have made this task far easier, and would also avoid the need to harvest increasingly scarce WiiMotes for future Wii-Cons. Ideally, such a custom design could preserve all the original WiiMote functionality, allowing the modified controllers to still work with an original Wii — a feature that would truly impress players.
