Mafia: Definitive Edition gets free PS5 and Xbox Series upgrade with 60 fps

Publisher 2K has officially confirmed that Mafia: Definitive Edition is coming to current-generation consoles, following an earlier leak by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). The action-adventure game will arrive on PS5, Xbox Series X and S on August 14 — six years after its original release.

Owners of the PS4 version, whether digital or physical, will receive the upgrade at no additional cost. The same applies to those who bought the game digitally on Xbox One. The new versions will run at 60 frames per second, double the performance delivered through backward compatibility, and include a number of technical improvements. Save transfers from previous-generation consoles will not be supported.

The upgraded release coincides with the launch of Mafia: The Omertà Collection, a bundle that brings together several entries in the series. It includes Mafia: Definitive Edition with enhancements for PS5, Xbox Series X and S, as well as Mafia 2: Definitive Edition and Mafia 3: Definitive Edition with all downloadable content — though neither of the latter two gets any current-gen upgrades. The collection also features Mafia: The Old Country Definitive Edition, which comes with the Man of Honor story expansion and content from the extended edition. That version will be pulled from sale on August 14.

Players who already own one or more games from the collection will be offered a discount when purchasing the bundle. The promotional offer is available for a limited time only.

In a statement, 2K said the collection has something for everyone, whether they have been following the Mafia series for generations or are simply looking for a reason to join the family. The announcement was accompanied by a new overview trailer for the collection.
