Marvel's Wolverine preview leak suggests PS5 game falls short of Spider-Man

Leaked impressions of Marvel's Wolverine have tempered expectations for Insomniac Games' latest project. Eurogamer, whose article went live ahead of schedule, called the title a "decently solid action game" while noting flaws in combat and a mediocre story. Full reviews will hit other outlets on August 13, but the leak already gives players a clearer picture ahead of the September 15 launch.
Unlike the Spider-Man series, the new PlayStation 5 exclusive skips an open world. The linear structure reduces options for engaging enemies: Logan's straightforward fighting style mows down small groups, but players may feel overwhelmed when surrounded. Early stages also pose challenges in targeting specific foes, though mobs become less intimidating as abilities are unlocked.
With exploration sidelined, a weak narrative becomes harder to overlook. According to the leak, Marvel movie fans will find the plot and dialogue predictable, as the protagonist once again seeks answers about his past. Character development raises doubts, though it could improve later in the game.
Eurogamer hints that reviews on the release date will satisfy Sony. The lack of freedom may disappoint those used to Spider-Man's openness, but the outlet predicts the title is "going to do just fine," even if it doesn't rank among Insomniac's finest work.
