Hello Games holds back Light No Fire reveal after 2023 teaser's unexpected success

Hello Games, the studio behind No Man's Sky, is deliberately keeping its next game Light No Fire under wraps for nearly three years. The reason is the overwhelming response to the first teaser, studio founder Sean Murray told PC Gamer in an interview tied to No Man's Sky's 10th anniversary.
Originally, the team planned to show more material at Summer Game Fest 2024. Murray had prepared a larger presentation that was meant to explain the game's core concept and ambitions. However, after the 90-second trailer debuted in 2023, the studio decided to cancel further public demonstrations.
The teaser proved extremely popular: it gathered around 20 million views, and Light No Fire climbed to the second spot on Steam's wishlist charts. According to Murray, this success, combined with the studio's past experiences, convinced the team that no additional announcements were needed at that time. Hello Games follows a policy of avoiding press outreach unless absolutely necessary, preferring to let the game speak for itself.
Development, meanwhile, is progressing steadily. Murray confirmed he had played Light No Fire on the day of the interview, stating that what he saw on screen far exceeds what a typical studio would have already shown to the world. He added that this approach lets the team focus on their work rather than on marketing and hype.
When asked whether more of the game might be revealed before the end of the year, Murray indicated he has no intention of repeating past mistakes or rushing public showcases.
