Gallipoli launches with peak below 4,000 players but earns 77% positive Steam rating

BlackMill Games has released Gallipoli, a historical shooter set on the Middle Eastern (Ottoman) front of World War I, now available on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. It is the fourth title in the studio's series, which includes Verdun (Western Front, 2015), Tannenberg (Eastern Front, 2019), and Isonzo (Italian Front, 2022).

The game remains niche, with a peak concurrent player count of under 4,000 in the first 24 hours. Despite modest numbers, early user reviews on Steam are largely positive, giving Gallipoli a 77% approval rating. The game is currently available with a 25% discount.

Players praise the gameplay innovations, improved shooting mechanics, new features, accurate historical context, and the depiction of the conflict between the British and Ottoman empires. Negative reviews mostly target graphics and performance — Gallipoli reportedly struggles to meet expectations and stutters even on high-end PCs. These are common issues for online shooters and could be addressed with future patches.

The key difference in Gallipoli is the shift in battlefield. Instead of prolonged trench warfare in Europe, players experience expeditionary combat, including beach landings and mobile engagements in the harsh terrain of the Gallipoli Peninsula. This change in setting and tactics sets the game apart from its predecessors, offering a fresh challenge for fans of realistic historical shooters.
