Chinese CXMT DDR5 hits 9000 MT/s for the first time, up from a 6400 MT/s ceiling

DDR5 memory built on CXMT's DRAM dies has reached a new milestone: modules have been demonstrated running at 9000 MT/s. This marks a major step for the Chinese chipmaker, whose memory was previously considered unable to exceed 6400 MT/s speeds reliably.
The recent memory shortage has driven a surge in demand for CXMT-based DDR5, and that in turn has pushed manufacturers and partners to invest in optimizations. Motherboard vendors have been releasing BIOS updates for their current-generation products to improve compatibility with CXMT modules. At the same time, Chinese memory makers have started sourcing higher-quality DRAM ICs from CXMT for premium product lines.
Colorful has emerged as one of the most active optimizers of CXMT support. The vendor previously showcased speeds up to 8800 MT/s on its X870 motherboards, and now it has pushed the envelope even further. The latest demonstration used the Colorful X870E Vulcan W OC motherboard, a dual-DIMM design built specifically for memory overclocking. The board was paired with various AMD Ryzen 9000 processors.
In the first test, Colorful ran its iGame Shadow II memory kit, consisting of two 24 GB modules, at 9000 MT/s with an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU. The timings were CL46-58-58-126-216. For context, the kit's stock EXPO profile is rated at 6000 MT/s, meaning the overclock represents a more than 50 percent increase over the advertised speed.
The results suggest that CXMT's memory dies are maturing quickly, and with continued BIOS and firmware work from vendors, even higher speeds may be achievable in the near future. This is particularly significant for the Chinese domestic market, where CXMT modules are becoming an increasingly common alternative amid global memory supply constraints.
