XPeng unveils battery for G9L that withstands 1000°C heat and charges at 5C

Chinese automaker XPeng has introduced a new-generation battery system that will power its G9L crossover. The key feature of the development is resistance to extreme heat and support for ultra-fast charging.
Engineers focused on cell protection and early fault detection. The passive safety circuit includes four-layer thermal insulation that fully encloses the cells. The company claims the pack can withstand temperatures above 1000 °C and remains stable under intense heating.
Active protection relies on an EIS chip that monitors the internal state of each cell in real time. The system works like a dynamic "electrocardiogram" for the battery: it detects the slightest parameter changes and warns about a failure twice as early as conventional solutions. This helps identify anomalies at an early stage and reduce the risk of thermal runaway. Cloud algorithms provide additional analysis, improving the accuracy of detecting dangerous changes.
The new battery supports 5C charging, significantly cutting the time needed to replenish range. The fully electric version of the G9L offers batteries with capacities of 91.9 and 110 kWh, while the extended-range hybrid variant will get a 63.3 kWh pack.
