Xiaomi drops support for Xiaomi 12 Lite, Redmi Pad SE and four more devices

Xiaomi has officially ended software support for six smartphones and tablets, adding them to the list of devices that will no longer receive firmware updates or security patches. The move, recorded in the company's support database on August 17, affects a mix of Chinese and global models.
The full list includes the Xiaomi 12S Pro (China), Xiaomi 12 Lite (available in Russian, global, European, Taiwanese, and Indonesian variants), Redmi Note 12R (China), Redmi 12R (China), Redmi 12 5G (China), and the Redmi Pad SE tablet (China). Notably, the Xiaomi 12 Lite is the only model with support cut across multiple regions, including Russia, which directly impacts users in those markets.
Devices on this list will no longer receive any firmware updates, including the upcoming HyperOS 4, nor security patches. This means owners will miss out on new system features and, more critically, will not get fixes for vulnerabilities, leaving their devices exposed to potential cyber threats. The lack of security updates increases the risk of malware and data breaches over time.
This follows a similar move in July, when Xiaomi ended support for 10 other devices. The company appears to be steadily phasing out older models to focus resources on newer hardware. For users of the affected devices, Xiaomi recommends considering an upgrade to a supported model to ensure continued security and access to new features. The decision underscores the typical lifecycle of Android devices, where manufacturers often limit support to two to three years of major updates and four years of security patches.
