TECNO POVA 8 review: 8000 mAh battery, secondary display and IP64 protection

TECNO has unveiled the next generation of its POVA smartphone lineup. While previous models focused primarily on screen size and battery life, the new devices bring a significantly broader set of features.

The spotlight is on the TECNO POVA 8, which stays true to the series' core values. It packs a massive 8000 mAh battery, a MediaTek Dimensity 7100 chipset and a large LCD display with a 144 Hz refresh rate. The chassis is rated IP64 for dust and water resistance. Photography is handled by a 50-megapixel Sony LYTIA 600 sensor. In Russia, the phone is sold only with 8 GB of LPDDR5X RAM. The design is futuristic, with a distinctive secondary pixel display on the back panel.

Alongside the standard model, TECNO also introduced the POVA 8 Pro, which somewhat deviates from the series' battery-first philosophy. It features a 6500 mAh battery, an AMOLED screen with 1.5K resolution protected by Gorilla Glass 7i, and a more powerful MediaTek Dimensity 7400 platform. The Pro version also offers enhanced IP68/IP69K dust and water resistance. TECNO positions it as a versatile all-rounder that aspires to camera-phone status similar to the CAMON lineup, but it stands out primarily for its overall combination of specifications.

Both models come with the company's TECNO AI system built in, offering a high level of on-device intelligence. The devices also support eSIM, expanding connectivity options.
