VirtualBox 7.2.16 boosts 3D graphics performance and fixes video recording freeze

On August 18, 2026, Oracle released VirtualBox 7.2.16, an update to its open-source, free, and cross-platform virtualization software for GNU/Linux, Solaris, macOS, and Windows. The previous stable version came out in late July 2026.

Version 7.2.16 focuses on bug fixes for Windows and Linux guests. The GUI received updated translations, improved visibility of OVF import warnings, and proper handling of inaccessible virtual machines. Graphics performance for VMSVGA 3D acceleration has been enhanced. The video recording feature no longer freezes when stopping after a large number of display updates.

On the host side, build errors with OpenSSL 4.0 have been fixed (github:gh-794). Linux Host now supports FRED (github:gh-784). Shared clipboard handling in Wayland has been improved for both Linux Host and Linux Guest. Linux Guest support for RHEL 9.8 kernels has been fixed (github:gh-732, github:gh-771).

Installation packages are available for RHEL 8/9/10, Fedora 40/41/42/43/44, openSUSE 15.6/16.0, Ubuntu 22.04/24.04/25.04/25.10/26.04, Debian 11/12/13, macOS, and Windows.
