The Binding of Isaac launches on November 19 — same day as GTA 6, and here's why it's a bold move

The console release of The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ Online is scheduled for November 19 — the exact same day as Grand Theft Auto 6. While most game publishers have been shifting their release dates to avoid the massive hype surrounding Rockstar's upcoming blockbuster, Edmund McMillen is taking a different approach.

This expansion adds a full online multiplayer layer to The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, supporting cooperative play for up to four players. It includes the entire roguelike experience along with all its expansions released over the years. Repentance+ Online will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The PC version has been available as a beta since 2024, though it has received a mixed reception from players due to performance issues and bugs.

McMillen has had a busy 2025. In February, he also released a brand new roguelike called Mewgenics, which is completely unrelated to the Binding of Isaac series. The decision to launch Repentance+ Online on the same day as GTA 6 is a surprising one, as most publishers have been actively avoiding that date to maximize their own sales and player attention. However, McMillen's move suggests confidence in the game's dedicated fanbase, which has supported the series for over a decade. The Binding of Isaac originally started as a Flash game in 2011 and has since grown into one of the most influential roguelikes in the indie gaming scene.
