Italian brand Smeg has released the Retro drip coffee maker (DCF02), which not only looks striking but also delivers solid results in beverage preparation. The device, priced from $259 in the US and from £199 in the UK, combines retro styling with simple operation — one button press is all it takes to start.

During testing, the model produced a balanced coffee flavor with minimal sediment and zero bitterness. This sets the new unit apart from the previous Smeg ECF02, which impressed reviewers with its premium look but underwhelmed in performance. The Retro DCF02, by contrast, earned high marks for functionality.

The coffee maker supports full and half batches, includes a reusable filter, and offers a delay brew start feature. Drawbacks include a fairly high price for what it offers and a small water tank opening.

In the US, the model is available in ten color options at a uniform price of $259, including the Moonlight finish tested in the review. In the UK, Moonlight carries a £20 premium over standard colors — it sells for £219, while regular shades (cream, navy, black, pastel blue, pastel green, silver, gray, red, and white) cost £199.
