MelGeek Evangelion keyboards: Rei edition adds 60Hz OLED touchscreen, costs $459

MelGeek, in partnership with Khara, Inc., has released two officially licensed Evangelion keyboards: the Centauri 60 Asuka Edition at $359 and the Centauri 80 Rei Edition at $459. Both are built on the same Hall Effect switch platform but differ in layout, sound tuning, and visual design.

The cheaper Centauri 60 Asuka Edition uses a compact 60% layout and weighs 1.32 kg. Its red-black-yellow color scheme references EVA-02 and Asuka's plug suit. Details include a CNC-machined "Rose Gold" aluminum knob, a laser-etched EVA-02 insignia, an Asuka identity plate, and the phrase "I Can Save the Human Race All by Myself" engraved on the underside.

The higher-end Centauri 80 Rei Edition features an 80% layout with a full function row and dedicated arrow keys. Its standout feature is a touchscreen OLED display with 325 PPI, a 60 Hz refresh rate, and 1 ms touch response. The screen runs on a dedicated MCU and can show custom wallpapers in JPG, PNG, or GIF formats. The pale blue-gray and white body is finished with a "Cool Silver" knob, an EVA-00 insignia, a Rei identity plate, and the engraving "You Won't Die. I Will Protect You." The keyboard weighs 1.8 kg, and MelGeek tuned its sound profile lower than the Asuka Edition's.

Both models come with Hall Effect magnetic switches offering adjustable actuation from 0.2 to 4 mm, a 0.01 mm Rapid Trigger, 8000 Hz polling, and a leaf-spring gasket mount with five-layer acoustic dampening. Internally, they use a distributed six-chip architecture—one master and five zone controllers. Configuration is done via MelGeek's browser-based Hive software; settings save to onboard memory, so no background app is needed. The keyboards work on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Each unit ships with a USB-C cable, a switch puller, seven extra keycaps, a protective case, and a two-year warranty. MelGeek describes the run as limited, with individually serialized units and no restock planned.
