Casio's limited titanium Oceanus watches go on sale: 800 pieces, Japan only

Casio's limited-edition Oceanus Retro Tone collection, announced earlier, moved from reservation to direct sale on August 7. The lineup consists of two models with a combined run of 800 pieces, available exclusively in Japan — no international release is planned.

The allocation is uneven. The higher-end Manta OCW-S400RL-8AJR is capped at 300 units priced at ¥165,000 (roughly $1,040). The Classic Line OCW-T2600RL-3AJR has a run of 500 pieces at ¥115,500 (about $730). Overseas buyers looking to get these watches will have to rely on proxy services, which inevitably brings markups.

The dial is where most of the value sits. Casio built the gradient in three layers over a molded base — silver vapor deposition, a colored coating, and a printed gradation pattern — finished half-matte so color and light radiate outward from the center. The key constraint was that a solar watch needs light to reach the cell underneath, so transmittance had to be carefully tuned.

Both models ship on full vegetable-tanned calfskin straps from Tochigi Leather, a Japanese tannery operating since 1937. The material was chosen specifically because it develops a visible patina with wear rather than staying unchanged over the years.

The Manta version comes with premium hardware: a sapphire bezel ring with a laser-treated top surface to a half-matte finish (Casio compares it to frost), plus Bluetooth syncing with the Casio Watches app. The Classic Line skips wireless connectivity entirely. Both feature Tough Solar, radio time correction across six global transmitters, and world time for 29 cities. The Classic Line case measures 48.2 × 42.8 × 10.7 mm in titanium, weighs 49 grams, and is rated to 10 bar.

For scale, Casio's Oceanus Manta S7000 Awa indigo edition was limited to 800 pieces and did reach the US at $1,900 earlier this year. Retro Tone's two references are comparatively more limited, and so far, they have no equivalent route out of Japan.
