Serious Sam: Shatterverse launches August 31, open playtest now live on Steam

The co-op roguelite shooter Serious Sam: Shatterverse now has a concrete release date — the game hits PC, PS5, Xbox Series X and S on August 31. The announcement came with a fresh gameplay trailer showcasing the abilities of playable characters.
The project is being developed by Canadian studio Behaviour Interactive, known for Dead by Daylight, with Devolver Digital handling publishing duties. The game was first unveiled in March during the Xbox Partner Preview showcase, originally targeting a 2026 launch. Prior to release, it has already gone through two public testing phases.
Alongside the date reveal, the developers kicked off a new open playtest on Steam. Participation requires nothing more than pressing the «Join Playtest» button on the game's store page — no applications or access requests needed. The team invites players to gather friends and spend the weekend playing through the content.
The story centers on Mental, whose maniacal schemes have shattered the walls between universes. Now Sams Stone from different dimensions must team up to restore the fractured reality. The game promises «adrenaline-fueled chaos with running and gunning», hordes of enemies, massive arenas, five-player co-op, and a devastating arsenal. The project will also include Russian localization.
