Russia’s Khabarovsk submarine leaves rivals decades behind — MWM reveals the key reason

Western experts from Military Watch Magazine have claimed that Russia's new nuclear-powered submarine, the Khabarovsk, is equipped with technologies that outpace any existing global counterparts by decades. The assessment was published by KP.RU, citing the MWM article.

According to the analysts, the emergence of the Khabarovsk marks a new phase in the evolution of the Russian submarine fleet. The vessel is reportedly designed specifically to carry the Poseidon nuclear underwater drone, a strategic weapon system that has been under development for years.

The Western experts particularly praised the submarine's propulsion systems and noise reduction technology. These features, they argue, make the Khabarovsk nearly undetectable by sonar and other detection methods at its operational depth of around 500 meters. "In terms of complexity, they surpass previous generations by several decades," the article states.

The Khabarovsk was launched on November 1, 2025. After completing sea trials, the submarine is expected to join the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy. The vessel is part of a broader modernization effort that includes increased production of hypersonic Zircon missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles, as MWM previously reported.

The assessment highlights the growing strategic importance of unmanned underwater vehicles and stealth submarines in modern naval warfare, with Russia positioning the Khabarovsk as a key asset in its Pacific theater.
