ASUS launches 4K OLED monitors up to 480 Hz, priced from €1259 with a catch

ASUS has officially unveiled two new gaming monitors with OLED panels, the ROG Swift OLED PG27UCWM and ROG Swift OLED PG32UCWM. Both models are already available in Germany, priced at €1,149 and starting at €1,259 respectively, while a US launch date has yet to be announced.

The new displays feature 4K panels with a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 and a peak brightness of up to 1,000 nits. The rated gray-to-gray response time is 0.03 ms, and the maximum refresh rate reaches 480 Hz. However, hitting that ceiling requires dropping the resolution to Full HD; at native 4K, the monitors top out at 240 Hz.

The company targeted competitive gamers with these specs, but the trade-off is largely irrelevant for most users. The benefit of refresh rates beyond 240 Hz diminishes significantly, and driving 4K content at higher frequencies demands an extremely powerful graphics card.

To eliminate screen tearing, both models support FreeSync Premium Pro and are G-Sync compatible. The smaller PG27UCWM sports a 27-inch panel, while the PG32UCWM steps up to a 32-inch screen. Both units include a Neo proximity sensor and AI-assisted features.

Connectivity options include HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, and a USB-C port with up to 90 W Power Delivery. That is enough to charge laptops or mini-PCs, but full-sized desktop gaming rigs will still need their own power source.
