Pixel Weather drops blue background, renames AI report in latest update
Google has released an update for Pixel Weather, version 1.1.20260626.962582759, bringing a redesigned icon and minor interface tweaks. The most noticeable change is the removal of the blue background from the app icon, which previously resembled a sky. This move is part of Google's broader effort to standardize icons across its Pixel apps, a mandate that has already affected Pixel Recorder, Google Calculator, and Clock.
Inside the app, the interface now shows the "Updated xx:xx" timestamp below the city name in the top-left corner at all times. This gives users a clear indication of when the weather data was last refreshed, ensuring they are viewing the most current information.
The "AI Weather Report" feature has been renamed to "Weather Brief" in both the main feed and the Settings menu. Despite the name change, the functionality remains identical — it still provides AI-generated summaries of weather conditions. No changes were made to the widgets, which remain limited to two styles. Many users have expressed a desire for more widget options, but this update does not address that request.
The update is rolling out widely via the Google Play Store today.
