Pixel Screenshots app gets long-awaited filters — now you can sort by source

Google has rolled out a significant update to Pixel Screenshots, an exclusive app for Pixel smartphones that uses artificial intelligence to organize and search through screenshots. The app, which many consider one of the best Pixel-exclusive tools, has just become even more useful with the addition of new filtering options.

Previously, Pixel Screenshots could automatically sort screenshots by type — for example, grouping all images captured from social media or shopping apps. It also offered an AI-powered search feature that lets users find specific screenshots using natural language queries. For instance, typing "dog" would display all screenshots containing a dog or dog-related images. This made it much easier to locate a particular screenshot without scrolling through hundreds of photos in the main gallery.

However, the app lacked manual filtering tools that would allow users to narrow down results by source or category. The new update addresses this gap by introducing several filters. Users can now select a tag, such as "social media," and the app will display only screenshots taken from apps like Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in Russia) or other social platforms. This makes it possible to quickly find screenshots from a specific type of app without relying solely on AI search.

The update is a welcome addition for heavy screenshot users who need to organize and retrieve information efficiently. Many users have expressed surprise that these filters were not included from the very beginning, as they seem like an obvious feature for a screenshot management app. With the new filters, Pixel Screenshots becomes an even more powerful tool for keeping digital clutter under control and finding exactly what you need in seconds.
