Pixel Buds Pro 2 get olive color, adaptive ANC and Gemini voice controls

Google has rolled out an update for its Pixel Buds Pro 2 wireless earbuds, introducing a new Olive color option alongside a batch of software improvements.

The headline feature is a dynamic active noise cancellation system, exclusive to the Pro 2 model. It continuously adjusts the level of noise suppression when the earbuds detect even minor changes in how snugly they fit in the ear. This keeps the ANC effective without requiring the user to manually tweak settings.

The Live Translate feature has also been refined. Previously, enabling it required a lengthy setup process in the menu, but now a single tap on the earbud's outer surface activates the listening mode. The translator renders the other person's speech almost in real time and supports over 70 languages.

The earbuds now integrate deeply with Google's Gemini voice assistant. Users can alter sound settings and adjust frequency response using simple voice commands, such as asking for more bass or a brighter treble, without digging into the companion app.

Sleep synchronization with Pixel Watch is another new addition. When the connected watch detects that the wearer is drifting off, the earbuds automatically pause music playback, disable touch controls, and mute notifications. This is meant to help users avoid being disturbed by accidental taps or incoming alerts during the night.

Most of the new software capabilities will also arrive on the more affordable Pixel Buds 2a, though the dynamic noise cancellation remains a Pro-exclusive feature. Google has not yet specified a rollout timeline for the update or pricing details for the new Olive colorway.
