Petlibro outage leaves cats and dogs unfed as smart feeders miss scheduled meals

Pet owners worldwide are facing a problem: Petlibro's smart feeders have stopped dispensing food on schedule due to a major service outage. The incident began on Tuesday, with users on Reddit reporting en masse that their devices—from automatic feeders to litter boxes and water fountains—have lost connection to the app.

Petlibro confirmed a "service issue" affecting some app functions. The company stated that "existing settings and schedules stored locally on your device will continue to operate as programmed," but in practice, many users found the opposite. According to complaints, the RFID and Granary models are missing scheduled feedings—a critical problem for those who left home and rely on automation to feed their pets.

The outage extends beyond feeders: some owners report issues with the Dockstream smart fountains and Luma litter boxes, as well as a non-functional Petlibro app. On Tuesday, the company said its team is "actively restoring service, validating stability, and bringing functionality back in stages." On Wednesday at 2:30PM ET, Petlibro announced that "much of our service is restored as we continue to bring the app back into full operation."

Some users confirmed their devices are working again, but others still cannot reconnect them to the Petlibro app. The Verge reached out to the company for further comment but had not received a response at the time of publication. The incident highlights the vulnerability of the smart home: when a cloud service fails, even simple tasks like feeding a pet become impossible.
