Proxmox VE officially debuts on Arm servers with Grace Hopper and Vera support

The popular virtualization platform Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) has received its first official support for the 64-bit Arm architecture (arm64/aarch64). Previously, the solution was available only for x86-64 (amd64) systems. The Proxmox VE 9.2 release for arm64 is built on Debian 13.5 "Trixie" with Linux kernel 7.0 and is based on the same code as the x86-64 version, including shared configuration, tooling, and documentation, aside from a few architecture-specific differences.
Developers state full support for NVIDIA Grace Hopper and NVIDIA Vera platforms. For other Armv8-A/Armv9-A hardware that boots via UEFI, "best-effort" support is provided, meaning no guarantees of stable operation. Meanwhile, single-board computers that rely solely on device-tree, such as the Raspberry Pi, are not supported: the host must boot through UEFI and describe hardware via ACPI.
However, work on a UEFI+ACPI port for the Raspberry Pi 4 had been previously noted, and some users have already managed to get the new release running on that board. Thus, despite official limitations, enthusiasts have found a way around them.
This change significantly expands the scope of Proxmox VE, enabling the platform to run on servers with Arm processors, which are gaining popularity due to their high energy efficiency. For existing x86-64 users, moving to the new architecture will not require altering familiar workflows, as management and configuration remain identical.
