Netflix's final Witcher season delayed again — premiere now expected in 2027

The final season of The Witcher on Netflix will not premiere in 2026 as previously planned. According to What's on Netflix, the streaming service has quietly removed mentions of the fifth season from its list of upcoming 2026 releases, while insiders report the premiere has been pushed to 2027.

Filming of the final episodes wrapped last fall, and the project has been in post-production ever since — a stage that has already lasted about ten months. No official reason for the delay has been given. The What's on Netflix editorial team speculates that the crew needs more time to finish visual effects work, and the service itself needs to reshuffle its release schedule to strengthen its 2027 lineup.

The renewal for both the fourth and fifth seasons was announced back in the spring of the year before last. The fourth season marked the debut of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia, replacing Henry Cavill. It premiered on October 30, 2025, and received the worst reviews in the show's history — a Rotten Tomatoes score of just 59%. Viewership also fell significantly compared to previous seasons.

In the final chapter's storyline, dark forces across the Continent are uniting against Ciri, and Geralt and Yennefer will face new obstacles and enemies. It remains unclear exactly when in 2027 viewers will see the conclusion of the story.
