Netflix lands GTA VI trailer exclusive — for just six hours

Netflix has partnered with Rockstar Games to become the only platform premiering an extended look at Grand Theft Auto VI on August 27 at 3pm ET. The feature, titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, will be exclusive to Netflix for a brief window — just six hours. At 9pm ET, the same footage will hit Rockstar's official YouTube channel, letting non-subscribers and those unable to watch Netflix during work hours get their first glimpse the same day.
The move is unusual given that YouTube has become the default destination for nearly every company releasing teasers, trailers, and promotional clips. If Netflix paid for the privilege of a six-hour head start over YouTube, it signals just how competitive the streaming market is becoming.
Grand Theft Auto VI is slated for a November launch this year, with many calling it the biggest media event of the year. For Netflix, this partnership is part of a broader push to attract audiences amid intensifying rivalry with broadcasters and other streaming platforms. The short exclusivity window suggests the company is willing to spend to stand out, even if the advantage lasts only a fraction of a day.
