Meta launches Threads app for Quest VR headsets — social network now available in VR

Meta has launched a Threads app for its Meta Quest VR headsets, the company announced on Tuesday. The release comes a month after Threads arrived on Ray-Ban Display AR glasses and follows news that the platform has surpassed 500 million monthly active users.

The app appears to be fairly full-featured. According to Meta, Threads for VR supports browsing feeds, creating posts, liking and replying, visiting profiles, searching, and watching videos — the standard set of social network functions.

"We designed the new Threads app for Meta Quest to make using VR more social than ever," the company said in a statement. "Whether you want to keep up with conversations during a game, riff on the latest TV show or hit album with friends, or simply do fast check-ins between daily tasks — Threads can enhance your VR experience with a dedicated native app."

The app is available for download from Meta's store. This expands Threads' presence beyond smartphones and the web, letting VR headset users stay connected to the social network without taking off their headsets.
