Marvel Fighting: Tōkon Souls Sells Only 2,814 Physical Copies in Japan During Launch Week

The fighting game Marvel Fighting: Tōkon Souls has had a rough start since its August 6 release. Initially, players complained about optimization issues and PSN server outages that lasted for hours. Now, sales data from Japan suggests the game's commercial performance is also disappointing.
According to @GameDataLibrary, a tracker of Japanese game sales, the title sold only 2,814 physical retail copies during its first week. While these numbers represent only physical sales, Japan's market is notable for having a disproportionately high share of physical game purchases compared to other regions. For some PS5 titles, physical copies account for up to 51% of total sales.
Given this context, the low physical sales figure indicates that even when digital sales are factored in, the overall launch performance is likely underwhelming. The combination of technical issues at launch and server problems may have deterred many potential buyers. The game's commercial struggles add to its early reputation as a troubled release, following a pattern of high-profile fighting games that have failed to meet expectations in recent years.
