KDE Plasma 6.6 LTS gets 3 years of fixes thanks to $100k Kubuntu Focus pledge
KDE e.V., Linux PC vendor Kubuntu Focus, and the KDE-aligned consulting firm Techpaladin Software have jointly announced the Bullet-Proof KDE Software initiative. The effort is designed to guarantee at least three years of bug fixes and security updates for the KDE Plasma 6.6 LTS desktop environment and the surrounding software stack.
Under the agreement, Kubuntu Focus has pledged $100,000 in direct payments to Techpaladin Software over the next three years. These funds are earmarked for maintenance work on the "bullet-proof" KDE stack, which covers not just Plasma 6.6 LTS itself but also the KDE Frameworks libraries and the associated KDE Gear applications. This means users can expect a sustained stream of fixes and hardening patches well beyond the typical support window for a desktop release.
In addition to the financial commitment, Kubuntu Focus is sponsoring KDE e.V. with three extra continuous integration nodes. These nodes will be used to test the software against Kubuntu 26.04 LTS throughout the three-year period, ensuring that updates are validated on the actual distribution where the suite is being shipped. The additional CI capacity should help catch regressions early and keep the software stable for everyday use.
