Kalkhoff unveils "budget" e-bike line at €2,799 with automatic transmission option

E-bike maker Kalkhoff is broadening its 2027 lineup, targeting both premium and more affordable market segments. The centerpiece is a new entry-level range called the "1 Series," built around a strong price-to-performance ratio. It includes three models: the Image 1 Move, Image 1 Advance, and Endeavour 1 Move. However, the starting price of €2,799 for the Image 1 Advance suggests the brand's take on "budget" remains fairly steep.

All three bikes in the series use a recently introduced rear hub motor from Bosch. The claimed torque of 45 Nm isn't class-leading on paper, but it should suffice for everyday riding. In terms of positioning, the Image 1 Move targets urban environments, while the Image 1 Advance prioritizes comfort and features a two-speed UT Gear H2 transmission. The Endeavour 1 Move is aimed at touring enthusiasts. At launch, all three variants come exclusively with low-step-through frames, support a maximum total system weight of 150 kg (including bike, rider, and cargo), and include a rear rack compatible with the MIK HD standard.

Beyond the entry-level segment, Kalkhoff is integrating advanced drivetrain tech into its broader 2027 range. Select mid-tier models will get automatic transmissions, including the Enviolo Trekking Automatic and TRP E.A.S.I. These systems handle gear selection dynamically to maintain a preset cadence, eliminating the need for manual shifting when stopping or accelerating in traffic. The Endeavour L Touring is confirmed to offer an automatic drivetrain option.
