Moto G47 with flicker-free IPS screen: $200 but dimmer than AMOLED rivals

The Motorola Moto G47 deliberately skips AMOLED technology in favor of a classic IPS panel. The choice likely stems from current memory prices: the 6.67-inch screen offers just 1,604 by 720 pixels, even though higher-resolution displays have become standard in the budget segment.

Brightness and response times also trail devices from Xiaomi and Samsung equipped with OLED screens. The official price exceeds $300, but online retailers such as amazon.com already list the phone at around $200.

Lab measurements show a peak brightness of 1002 cd/m² in APL18 mode. For HDR content, the figure drops to 971 nits, and with full-screen illumination it falls below 800 cd/m². This could limit outdoor visibility on bright days, though it matters less for users who primarily stay indoors.

The Moto G47's key advantage is the absence of pulse-width modulation (PWM) for brightness control. That reduces eye strain during extended sessions. Flickering OLED panels often trigger headaches and faster eye fatigue in sensitive individuals, while the IPS display avoids this issue entirely.

If you don't demand extreme brightness or high resolution, the Moto G47's IPS screen will serve you well over time. But for those who spend a lot of time outside and need reliable readability in all conditions, AMOLED alternatives are worth considering.
