Geekom IT13 Max review: powerful Core Ultra 9 mini-PC, but loud and weak in games

The Geekom IT13 Max mini-PC, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, 24 GB of RAM, and an attractive price tag, turns out to be a mixed bag. According to a review, the combination of high CPU performance and an immature fan control system leads to contradictory impressions.

In terms of system performance, the IT13 Max shines. The Core Ultra 9 185H, while no longer the newest processor, still delivers plenty of computing power for demanding tasks. The compact computer also excels with very fast Wi-Fi and a comprehensive array of ports. Chassis temperatures remain pleasantly low, thanks in part to an internal metal cage that effectively keeps heat away from the outer casing.

However, there is a notable downside: under load, the IT13 Max becomes clearly audible. The fan control appears underdeveloped and offers hardly any options for customizing the fan curve. Anyone seeking the quietest possible mini-PC is likely to find this annoying.

The integrated Intel Arc 8-core graphics unit also fails to match the CPU's positive performance. In current graphics benchmarks, the IT13 Max often ranks only in the lower middle of the pack. While performance is sufficient for older and less demanding games, it falls short for modern titles. The system's overall value is thus compromised by these two weaknesses: noise under load and mediocre graphics capability.
