Galaxy S23 owners demand seven years of updates — Samsung gave them only four

A poll among Galaxy S23 owners has revealed that the vast majority expect seven years of major OS updates for their devices — even though Samsung officially promised only four for this lineup.
The survey asked readers how many years of updates a $1,000 phone should receive. 41.13% of respondents chose "seven, like the Galaxy S26 and Pixel 10." Another 28.92% said the term should depend on how long people actually use the phone, with no fixed commitment. 25.73% considered five years of security updates sufficient, while only 4.22% believed four years is acceptable.
In total, 95.78% of participants asked for more than Samsung actually delivered for the Galaxy S23. The company has confirmed that One UI 9 will be the last major update for the 2023 flagship — just eleven months after Samsung set a seven-year support policy for the Galaxy S24 in January 2024.
The gap between user expectations and reality is narrow: most owners simply want the same level of support that Samsung already provides for newer models. However, Galaxy S23 users remain excluded from this promise, despite the phone costing the same premium price at launch. The poll results suggest that buyers now see long-term software support as a baseline expectation for high-end smartphones, not a bonus feature.
