Fairphone 6+ arrives Tuesday with removable battery and Snapdragon 7s Gen 4

Fairphone has officially confirmed that the Fairphone 6+ will be unveiled on Tuesday, August 18, at 1:00 p.m. CET. The teaser video released by the company carries the slogan "The Fairphone. Plus more.", which hints that the upcoming device is essentially an upgraded version of the Fairphone 6 with additional features.

Based on extensive leaks, the design of the Fairphone 6+ remains largely unchanged compared to its predecessor, though a new dark blue color option is expected to join the lineup. The price, however, is set to rise by €100. The company reportedly plans to offer just a single configuration with 256 GB of internal storage for €649, and users will still be able to expand that via a microSD card. RAM gets a bump from 8 GB to 12 GB.

Under the hood, the Fairphone 6+ is said to swap the older Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 for the more modern Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, although the performance gain over the previous generation is expected to be modest. According to a leaked spec sheet, the rest of the hardware remains virtually identical to the Fairphone 6.

The device is a relatively compact smartphone featuring a 6.31-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a removable 4,415 mAh battery. The modular, easily repairable construction does come with a couple of trade-offs: the handset is only rated IP55, so it is not fully waterproof, and it measures 9.6 mm in thickness, making it somewhat bulky for a mid-range phone.

On the camera front, the Fairphone 6+ is expected to include a 50 MP main shooter with an f/1.88 aperture and a 1/1.56-inch sensor, a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera with f/2.2 aperture, and a 32 MP f/2.0 selfie camera. The phone will run on Android, and given Fairphone's track record, long-term software support is likely to be a key selling point, though the company has not yet detailed the update policy for this model.
