Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta patch tones down footsteps and weapon lethality after player backlash

Infinity Ward has released the first patch for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, introducing a new map and game mode while addressing player complaints about overly loud footsteps and unbalanced time-to-kill.

The new map, named Cachette, is a compact 6v6 arena set on the outskirts of a French rail terminal. It features a makeshift armory housed in an old mechanics garage and an abandoned wine warehouse. The new mode, Inflation, revolves around a cash mechanic. Players earn money by eliminating enemies, and those with the highest cash totals become high-value targets. Defeating an HVT allows you to steal their cash and assume the target role yourself, adding a strategic layer to the chaotic firefights.

On the mechanical side, Infinity Ward has reduced footstep audio volume after widespread complaints that it was too loud, making stealth nearly impossible. Additionally, the developers acknowledged that the time-to-kill is not quite right yet and have made adjustments to weapon lethality. The studio stated that it will continue to monitor feedback throughout the beta period. The patch aims to refine the core gameplay experience ahead of the full release, as the title seeks to win back fans after the mixed reception of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7.
