Xiaomi's SU7 Hits 500,000 Sales in 28 Months — Faster Than Any Chinese EV Startup

Xiaomi, the Chinese electronics giant turned automaker, has announced a major milestone for its first electric vehicle. The company has sold over 500,000 units of the SU7 sedan in just 28 months since deliveries began in April 2024.

The automaker disclosed the achievement on Monday, reporting that it delivered 21,044 SU7 units in July 2026 alone. Since the beginning of 2026, cumulative sales of the model have exceeded 100,000 vehicles. Overall, Xiaomi has sold 760,000 units across its entire EV lineup since April 2024.

Xiaomi entered the automotive industry in late 2023 with the sudden unveiling of the SU7. The electric sedan quickly became a bestseller, and the company has since expanded its portfolio to include the performance-oriented SU7 Ultra and the recently launched YU7 crossover SUV. Xiaomi also refreshed the SU7 with next-generation technology, demonstrating a rapid iteration cycle that industry observers say is one of the key factors behind its success.

In just over two years, the company has transformed its nascent EV division into a serious automotive player. The pace of growth — from unknown newcomer to half a million sales of a single model — is unprecedented among Chinese EV startups. Analysts attribute this to Xiaomi's existing brand recognition, aggressive pricing, and ability to leverage its supply chain and software expertise from the smartphone business. The company's first EV is often compared to the "Apple Car" that never materialized, and its success has cemented Xiaomi's position as a major force in China's increasingly competitive electric vehicle market.
