Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 to launch before Xiaomi 18, HyperOS 4 borrows Apple-style design

The Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 foldable is expected to debut in early September, ahead of the Xiaomi 18 series, which is planned for late September. Indian leaker Kartikey Singh confirmed this, backing up an earlier tip from Digital Chat Station. The device is similar in size and shape to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, though it looks less angular in direct comparison.

Alongside the new flagship, Xiaomi will introduce HyperOS 4, which will come preinstalled on the foldable. Leaked promo images posted by Weibo users reveal the software's design: Xiaomi appears to have drawn inspiration from the "Liquid Glass" style seen in recent iOS versions, as well as the upcoming iPhone Ultra form factor. Chinese sources describe the new visual approach as "Soft Glass Design."

Beyond the visual overhaul, HyperOS 4 brings several new features. The promo shots show a redesigned lock screen, stacked widgets on the home screen, a refreshed Xiaomi Device Center, and options for different folder sizes plus a smart grid for icons. The update is expected to roll out to many existing Xiaomi phones and tablets over the months following the announcement.

A first photo of the new foldable, featuring a wider 4:3 internal display, leaked a few weeks ago, though only the cover screen was visible at the time. The Weibo post was quickly deleted, but screenshots and images survived, albeit in mediocre quality.
