Xiaomi launches $30 cat water fountain with 90-day battery life and UV sterilization

Xiaomi has expanded its line of pet accessories with the new Mijia Smart Pet Water Fountain 2 Sterilization Edition, an automatic water dispenser designed for cats and other small pets. The device features a built-in UV-C sterilization system, a four-stage filtration mechanism, and an internal battery that promises up to 90 days of operation on a single charge.

The fountain comes with a 3-liter water tank. According to Xiaomi, this volume can last a single cat for approximately 10 to 15 days. A transparent window on the side allows users to check the remaining water level at a glance. The drinking bowl is angled to provide a more natural head position for the animal while drinking, which is intended to reduce neck strain.

The headline feature of the Sterilization Edition is the UV-C module integrated into the pump. Xiaomi claims this system can eliminate up to 99% of bacteria in the water. The water passes through four filtration stages: a microporous polypropylene filter, activated carbon, an ion-exchange resin, and an antibacterial layer. Together, these layers trap hair, dust, food debris, and other contaminants. The pump automatically shuts off when the water level drops too low, preventing dry running and potential damage.

Power is supplied by a 4,000 mAh rechargeable battery. In standby mode, the fountain can run for up to 90 days without needing to be plugged into a wall outlet. Users can choose between three water circulation modes: sensor-based (activates when the pet approaches), periodic (runs at set intervals), and continuous circulation. The continuous mode requires the device to be connected to a power source.

Sales in China are scheduled to begin on August 25. The retail price is set at 199 yuan, which converts to roughly 30 US dollars. Xiaomi has not yet announced international availability or pricing for markets outside China.
