Xiaomi enters NAS market with dual-bay Smart Storage supporting up to 60 TB and 2.5 GbE

Xiaomi has entered the home NAS market with the launch of the Xiaomi Smart Storage, its first network-attached storage device featuring two drive bays and a maximum capacity of 60 TB. The device has already completed its crowdfunding phase in China, and the company is now accepting pre-orders.
The Smart Storage is designed to accommodate two drives. Each bay supports both 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch SATA drives, including HDDs and SSDs. The maximum claimed capacity per drive is 30 TB, allowing the total storage to reach 60 TB. Users can choose between a maximum capacity mode and a data mirroring mode for redundancy.
Xiaomi offers the device with pre-installed drives. Available configurations include 4 TB, 8 TB, and 16 TB variants, each with two drives. The 4 TB version is priced at 2,299 yuan (approximately $320), the 8 TB version at 3,499 yuan (around $485), and the 16 TB version at 4,699 yuan (about $650).
The hardware includes a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port, USB 3.0, and HDMI 1.4. The faster network interface makes the NAS suitable not only for backup but also for handling large files such as video content. The device supports automatic backup from Xiaomi smartphones and security cameras, as well as synchronization with cloud services. It is powered by a quad-core processor (specific model not disclosed by the company) and comes with 2 GB of RAM. The NAS runs on a customized operating system based on Linux, providing a web-based management interface and mobile app support for remote access.
