Xbox chief saw The Elder Scrolls VI live and praised its story as even greater than its scale

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has revealed that she personally watched a live playthrough of The Elder Scrolls VI and came away impressed. She described the game's scale and grandeur as incredible, adding that the story is even better than expected. This marks the first notable update on the project since a teaser trailer debuted back in June 2018.

Sharma's statement came as a surprise to fans of the series, who have been waiting for a new installment since 2011, when The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was released. Many consider Skyrim one of the greatest games ever made, so Bethesda faces a tough challenge in matching or surpassing its predecessor. Meanwhile, players can take some comfort in the recently released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered.

Sharma also mentioned that she saw something in the game that she chose to redact in her post — the subtitle of The Elder Scrolls VI appears to be eight characters long. That has already sparked a wave of speculation among players about the possible name of the new entry.

The renewed activity around The Elder Scrolls VI ties into Microsoft's plans to accelerate development of key Xbox franchises, including Fallout, Halo, and The Elder Scrolls VI. Earlier, it was reported that Obsidian is working on a new Fallout game, so Bethesda could bring two of its biggest series back into the spotlight in the coming years.

For the upcoming Xbox Helix console, having strong exclusives at the start of its lifecycle is critical. If The Elder Scrolls VI and the new Fallout do arrive in the near future, they could be a major selling point for the next generation of Xbox hardware.
