Wearables market to hit $1 trillion by 2032 — smartwatches and earbuds lead the way

A new report from Counterpoint Research forecasts that the global consumer wearables market will generate more than $1 trillion in cumulative revenue between 2026 and 2032, with smartwatches and wireless earbuds driving the bulk of sales.

According to the report, hearables — primarily true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds — will account for the largest share of cumulative revenue, approximately $360 billion. Smartwatches follow closely with $304 billion, while smart eyewear is expected to contribute $168 billion. Together, smartwatches and TWS devices are projected to generate $558 billion over the seven-year period, representing more than half of the total forecast revenue.

The report attributes the sustained growth of these two categories to large installed bases, recurring replacement demand, and everyday use across health monitoring, communication, and entertainment. Deep integration with smartphone ecosystems also plays a key role. For smartwatches, rising average selling prices are supported by premium hardware, cellular connectivity, advanced health sensors, and on-device AI capabilities, which are gradually transforming the category into a platform for preventive healthcare and personal computing. In contrast, TWS value growth is constrained by feature standardization and intense price competition.

Other segments are also expected to contribute significant revenue. Health patches are forecast to generate $120 billion, smart rings $44 billion, pendants $24 billion, smart shoes $18 billion, and fitness bands $14 billion. Smaller categories such as smart socks, smart clothing, and smart belts will add further but more modest amounts.

The report underscores that the wearables market is evolving beyond simple fitness tracking into a broader ecosystem of health, computing, and lifestyle devices, with premium features and AI integration becoming key differentiators.
