Ukrainian Oko HD quadruples thermal camera pixels — aims to be the most affordable HD model

Ukrainian company Oko Camera is developing a new thermal imaging camera, the Oko HD, featuring a sensor with a resolution of 1280×1024 pixels. The company's representatives disclosed the details to the correspondent of Oboronka during the DALO Industry Days 2026 exhibition in Herning, Denmark.

The key feature of the Oko HD is its sensor, which packs four times more pixels than the company's previous product lines. This increase in pixel count is expected to significantly enhance target recognition range. The camera is primarily designed for long-range surveillance, enabling detection and identification of objects at extended distances. The exact range has not been disclosed by the company yet.

"LWIR cameras — long-wave infrared cameras with HD resolution — are not common on the global market. In Ukraine, they do not currently exist at all," said a partnership manager at Oko Camera in a comment to Oboronka. "This camera will have a significantly greater detection range, which directly affects the ability of an unmanned or robotic system it is integrated into to see targets at long distances."

Currently, the Oko HD is in the prototyping stage. The company plans to produce the first working samples by the end of 2026 and deliver them to customers who have already submitted inquiries. Oko Camera expects the new model to become one of the most affordable thermal HD cameras on the world market. Once testing confirms the intended specifications, mass production is scheduled to begin in 2027.

In July, Oko Camera previously showcased a prototype of a new thermal camera for reconnaissance drones. The Oko HD is positioned as a significant step forward in thermal imaging for both military and civilian applications, particularly for integration into unmanned aerial and ground systems where long-range detection is critical.
