Trash-Found 32-Inch Trinitron Won't Power On After Six Years Outside

An enthusiast going by the handle Happychoice found an old Sony TV with a 32-inch Trinitron CRT on a roadside in Italy. The device had apparently been sitting there for at least six years, exposed to the elements and local wildlife, but that didn't stop the repairer from persuading the junkyard owner to let him take it home.

The first restoration attempt didn't go well: even after cleaning and replacing a few suspicious resistors, the TV only responded with a triple blink of the power LED. Such behavior points to a fault in the control board related to the power supply condition.

Over several months of work, the author's mood went from cautious optimism to deep frustration, then through a bargaining phase to accepting that the repair would be far more involved than initially assumed. Still, the CRT itself and most of the circuit boards, apart from the already replaced components, look to be in decent shape for further use.

Happychoice notes that despite all the difficulties, the project remains interesting and the TV is worth restoring. All that's left is to wish the enthusiast luck in bringing this beast back to life.
