Timex revamps Waterbury Classic with sub-seconds dial, four new models from $189

Timex has refreshed its 39 mm Waterbury Classic line, swapping the central seconds hand for a small sub-seconds register at 6 o'clock. The change gives the dial a more traditional, dress-watch character and brings the collection closer to the brand's existing Waterbury Traditional Sub-Second range.

The updated lineup consists of four references, all listed on Timex's US website and available now, except for the brown leather variant. Two models come on steel bracelets: the TW2Y91800, priced at $219, features a white textured dial with a metallic blue handset and matching applied indices, paired with a fully brushed and polished steel bracelet. The TW2Y91900, at $239, uses gold-tone hands and markers on a two-tone bracelet. The two leather-strap versions are more affordable at $189 each, including the TW2Y92000, which is fitted with a black crocodile-grain strap sourced through the Leather Working Group.

All four share the same case architecture: polished stainless steel measuring 39 mm in diameter, 10 mm thick, with a 46 mm lug-to-lug distance and a 20 mm lug width. The fit is designed for wrists between 150 mm and 205 mm. A slightly domed mineral glass crystal protects the dial. Inside, a battery-powered quartz movement runs on an SR626SW cell, and water resistance is rated at 50 metres. The bracelet versions use a deployant clasp, which accounts for the $30 price gap over the leather models.

The sub-seconds layout is the most notable update here. Moving the seconds display to a small dial at 6 o'clock not only modernizes the look but also aligns the Waterbury Classic more closely with the traditional styling of the Waterbury Traditional Sub-Second family. That said, the new models are priced above the previous Waterbury Classic generation, reflecting the added complexity and upgraded finishing.
