Terraria's biggest mod Calamity shuts down after grooming allegations against its owner

Calamity, a mod for Terraria that for a decade was one of the game's most expansive additions, is ceasing development. The team announced the shutdown on the project's Discord server, citing an "irrecoverably tainted reputation" and a loss of enthusiasm for the work.

Calamity added expansion-level content to Terraria, including new bosses, weapons, and other survival elements. However, internal issues within the team had been mounting for years. Developers admitted feeling betrayed after repeated promises of improvement that never materialized. "Almost all passion we've had for the mod has been soured," the statement read, and many members had already left, preferring to focus on their own projects.

The closure stems from allegations against Ozzatron, who took over development after previous leader Fabisol was accused of similar misconduct in 2022. Ozzatron is accused of involvement with an adult-oriented server that knowingly included minors. When the server's existence leaked around 2020, those responsible allegedly instituted an 18+ rule without removing underage users already present, and even reportedly reinvited minors who had left in panic.

Due to the scandal, many content creators for Calamity requested their work be removed from the mod. The team acknowledged the staggering volume of such requests, making replacement nearly impossible with no developers left. The project, after ten years, found itself at a dead end: no willing staff and a reputation the team considers beyond repair.
