Synology launches neo+ NAS with older AMD Ryzen chips, up to 8 bays and 2.5GbE

Synology has unveiled an updated DiskStation neo+ lineup of network-attached storage devices built around previous-generation AMD processors. The series consists of four models — DS1825neo+, DS1525neo+, DS925neo+ and DS725neo+ — supporting eight, five, four and two SATA-3 drives in LFF or SFF form factors, respectively.

All units come in desktop enclosures. The higher-end models are powered by the quad-core Ryzen Embedded V1500B running at 2.2 GHz with eight threads, while the entry-level DS725neo+ uses a dual-core Ryzen Embedded R1600 clocked between 2.6 and 3.1 GHz. The two larger units ship with 8 GB of DDR4 SO-DIMM memory without ECC, while the smaller ones pack 4 GB. All configurations allow expansion up to 32 GB via two 16 GB modules, including ECC versions.

Each unit features two M.2 2280 slots for NVMe SSDs, plus network connectivity: the DS725neo+ has one 2.5GbE and one 1GbE port, while the rest offer dual 2.5GbE. The DS1825neo+ and DS1525neo+ also include a PCIe 3.0 expansion slot for an optional 10GbE or 25GbE adapter. Depending on the model, there are one to three USB 3.0 ports, and the DX525 expansion unit is supported.

The devices run on DSM with client-side encryption capabilities. Automated immutable snapshots protect critical LUNs and shared folders using user-defined retention policies. Orders for the new DiskStation neo+ series are now open.
