Sonos readies Beam successor with Wi-Fi 6E — new soundbar expected this September

Sonos appears to be finalizing a new soundbar that will succeed the Beam Gen 2, nearly four years after the original model launched in 2021. Regulatory filings with the U.S. Federal Communications Commission reveal a device carrying model number S59 and the internal codename Gambit. The dimensions listed in the documents closely match those of the second-generation Beam, which measures 25.6 inches in width, suggesting that Sonos is keeping the same compact form factor while upgrading the internal hardware.

The FCC paperwork shows that the S59 supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi across the 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and 6 GHz bands, a notable connectivity upgrade over the current Beam Gen 2, which tops out at 5 GHz. The device also supports 2×2 MIMO operation, which should improve wireless performance in congested environments. However, the filings reveal little about the audio hardware itself — details such as driver configuration, Dolby Atmos support, HDMI connectivity, and other features remain unknown. Sonos has requested confidentiality for several documents, including internal and external photographs, until January 2027, which is typical for products not yet announced.

Bloomberg reports that Sonos is planning a September unveiling for the new soundbar, and it may be part of a broader hardware refresh. Alongside the S59, the company is expected to introduce other products, including the rumored Ace Ultra headphones. The timing suggests Sonos is aiming to strengthen its home theater lineup ahead of the holiday season, with the new soundbar likely to offer improved audio processing and smart features over the Beam Gen 2.
